Sunday, January 26, 2020: "O, WHAT A TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE (When First We Practice to Perceive)"
Time: (All day)
Speaker: Rev. Jack Donovan

-Some of the foundational Transcendantalist Unitarians (eg, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Margaret Fuller, Henry David Thoreau, Bronson Alcott, Walt Whitman) urged that we break free from the wisdom teachings of earlier generations and learn life first hand from our inner experience of nature and nature's depths.  But others from the same school urged caution as to how much we let ourselves be guided by such intuitional and emotional responses (eg, Melville and Hawthorne - think Moby Dick and The Scarlet Letter).  Today, psychologists and neurologists are further deconstructing our senses of perceving, discerning, and choosing and are re-shaping how we think about the mind and its realities.  So, let us ponder, In comparison to the world's wisdom traditions, how is our understanding of truth and meaning being influenced by our own direct experience - and how should we respond to that?
